Evaluation and Retrofit of Masonry Structures. Joint USA-Italy Workshop (2nd) held on August 19-29, 1987

Ancient and older, generally unreinforced, masonry buildings constitute a large portion of the buildings in both Italy and the United States; many of them have historical importance. Many of the buildings in both countries are structurally marginal and some are inadequate, if not unsafe, for current use. The objectives of the workshop were to: provide for the exchange of concepts and information in the area of evaluation and retrofit of masonry structures; identify areas which require further research development and which would benefit both countries; and encourage the development of specific research projects on topics of common interest and value.
