FPS (Friction Pendulum System) Earthquake Resisting System. Experimental Report

The Friction Pendulum System (FPS) connections provide a simple and effective way to achieve earthquake resistance for buildings. They are fabricated of high strength steel and can be installed in the lower story of a building. The connection consists of an articulated friction slider which moves on a spherical concave surface. The results in small amplitude pendulum motions of the supported structure. The connections provide seismic isolation and ductility for the building, with the friction slider effectively absorbing the earthquake's energy.
