Social Indicators of Development 1987

摘要

The ultimate goal of development is to improve the human condition, especially for the least privileged members of society. To this end, the World Bank, working with national governments, seeks to raise general living standards and reduce mass poverty. As a means of assessing progress towards this goal, the Bank compiles a variety of social indicators incorporating data from the countries themselves in accordance with national definitions, or from specialized international agencies which deal with education, health and nutrition, or other social sectors.
