The Second NASA Symposium on Quality and Productivity: Strategies for Revitalizing Organizations, a follow-on to the 1984 NASA Symposium, was designed to challenge the nation's leaders to substantially improve the level of quality of America's goods and services and the productivity of the work force. The Symposium, which was held in Washington, DC on December 2-3, 1986, provided a forum for senior executives from government, industry and academia to explore ways to increase national quality and productivity. Four main themes were discussed: maintaining teamwork and a participative management environment; building a constant improvement philosophy and quality ethic in the organization; fostering entrepreneurialism and innovation in the middle-aged organization; and developing productivity measurement techniques and gainsharing approaches.
