摘要

The feasibility of a process for improving bonding between reinforcing fibers and thermoplastic resins was demonstrated. Improved bonding resulted from the formation of chemical crosslinks between reactive sites formed on the fiber and matrix surfaces in the solid state prior to lamination. The process was demonstrated with AS4 carbon and polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) fibers in a commingled yarn as the starting material. The reactively crosslinked material had a factor of two high transverse tensile strength. A distinct change in failure mode was also observed.
