Residential Energy Consumption Survey, 1984 and Residential Transportation Energy Consumption Survey, 1985: Public Use Tape Documentation

The RECS data file contains basic data concerning housing unit characteristics from the interview questionnaire and annualized (April 1984-March 1985) fuel consumption and expenditures (excluding transportation fuel) derived from the records of the households' fuel suppliers. Also included are weather variables and a weighting variable. The RTECS survey collects data on the number and type of vehicles per household and, for each vehicle, annual miles traveled, gallons of fuel consumed, type of fuel used, price paid for fuel, and vehicle miles-per-gallon. The tape documentation provides job control language for unloading the tape, a discussion of confidentiality provisions, and complete file descriptions.
