摘要

A number of communities throughout New York State are considering establishing district heating and cooling systems as an energy-efficient and environmentally advantageous way to meet the energy needs of downtown buildings. In the first phase of the project, the Energy Authority and Development Downtown, Inc. conducted a feasibility study indicating that a district heating system would be both technically and economically viable for downtown Buffalo. The objective was to design and build a pilot system to serve three City-owned and two private buildings. The district heating system designed was based on an extensive marketing analysis which carefully considered the heating loads of the pilot buildings and those buildings targeted for future system expansions. The pilot district heating system has proved to be economically attractive, and planning is now under way to expand the system to other buildings in downtown Buffalo.
