Fiber Matrix Burner Commercial Storage Water Heater. Final Report September 1983-August 1987

A 200,000 Btu per hour, storage-type commercial water heater was developed. The 75-gallon water heater incorporates Alzeta's Pyrocore radiant burner, an advanced technology being applied to a wide range of gas equipment. The unit was designed for near-term commercialization as a high efficiency yet condensing water heater. It has a thermal efficiency of over 84% which is very nearly the maximum efficiency possible to remain compatible with conventional ducting installations. The development work and resultant heater design are presented in the report. In addition, a field and laboratory test program to evaluate the durability and reliability of the heater is discussed.
