Gas Chromatography of Organo-Phosphorus Compounds on Chiral Stationary Phases

The gas chromatographic separation of the stereoisomers of the organophosphorus containing nerve agents Soman, Sarin and Tabun is described. Glass capillary columns coated with the non-chiral phases SE-30 and Carbowax 20M or with the chiral phases Chirasil-Val and Ni(II) Bis ((1R)-(heptafluorobutyryl) camphorate) were used. The diastereoisomers of Soman are well separated on both SE-30 and Carbowax 20M coated columns. Chirasil-Val coated columns separate the enantiomers of Soman, but only a moderate separation of the enantiomers of Sarin and no separation of the enantiomers of Tabun is obtained. The Ni-camphorate coated columns separate the enantiomers of Soman, Sarin and Tabun. (Copyright (c) 1987, TNO; the Hague.)
