The report has implemented dual-energy tomosynthesis on a digital fluorographic system to perform intravenous (IV) coronary artery imaging. Following an IV injection, the U-arm is scanned over a curvilinear path, with each dual-energy view triggered by the electrocardiograph. After completion of LU-arm modifications, IV coronary studies on canines commenced and demonstrated improved visualization of the proximal arteries by blurring background pulmonary vessels. However a low signal-to-noise ratio, owing to the dilute contrast, limited the effectiveness of the method. Other projects, which will be ultimately integrated, include methods of scatter cancellation, noise-filtering, and blood vessel boundary estimation. Advances in flow compensation schemes have been studied and should prove useful in reducing artifacts in coronary imaging.
