One of the methods for judging the effectiveness of a newly developed selection examination is to correlate test scores with a measure of job performance. This enables researchers to determine whether the selection examination is predictive of performance on the job. For the validation of the new Contract Specialist examination, a job performance rating form was developed for use as a criterion instrument. Test scores from the experimental administration of the new examination were correlated with the ratings given on the job performance rating form. The rating form, which describes six contract specialists duties and 11 KSAO's/general work behaviors, was developed by research psychologists from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and subject matter experts (SME's) from various Federal agencies with large contracting functions.
