摘要

We are proposing a two phase program to design and develop a motor-driven, non-pulsatile, non-occlusive pump system capable of being implanted within the chest cavity as an artificial heart. Phase I will design, fabricate and test in the laboratory, a non-implantable system capable of certain implant tests. The fully implantable system will be designed. Phase II will fabricate and test in animals the fully implantable system. The fully implantable artificial heart system will then be tested in animals by the University of Utah Medical Center by implanting it in five large animals. Successful completion of this two phase project will result in an artificial heart ready for NIH-FDA testing in large animals.
