National Conference on State Planning for the Prevention of Mental Retardation and Related Developmental Disabilities: Conference Proceedings, Washington, D.C., February 11-12, 1987

The purpose of the conference was to stimulate commitment to a national effort to prevent mental retardation and related developmental disabilities. A record number of reknown public and private sector agencies demonstrated commitment to and support of the popular initiative. Twelve national mental retardation constituency organizations joined the PCMR in co-sponsoring the conference. Conference participants included prevention planners, service providers, advocacy group representatives, educators, health officials, legislators, and federal and state government officials who came from 33 states, 3 territories and the District of Columbia. They represented a broad spectrum of individuals, agencies, programs and services.
