Child Drowning Study: A Report on the Epidemiology of Drowning in Residential Pools to Children Under Age Five

A 1986 survey of all identified submersion accidents to children younger than five occurring in eight counties in California, Arizona and Florida, is reported. Victim characteristics such as sex, age, existence of sibling and last reported sighting, are correlated with risk. Profiles of the victims, the amount of supervision, pool characteristics, accident environment and rescue efforts are all factors that are assessed in detail in the study.
