Immunodeficiency Inpatient Unit Nursing Trainee Project

An Immunodefiency Inpatient Unit is being established at the VAMC West Los Angeles to provide care for patients with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and other maninfestations of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Its goal is to provide coordinated inpatient and outpatient care to patients with HIV-related diseases. It will also provide the needed resources to improve the care of patients and the protection of health care workers. It is expected that by establishing this special medical unit, appropriate diagnostic testing and appropriate therapy will be done on a timely basis and will ensure ongoing patient and staff education about HIV infection.
