摘要

The biodynamic response of the femur during passively restrained impact acceleration was studied. Tests were conducted on eleven unembalmed cadavers. Bending moments along the femoral shaft were found to be high although only one cadaver sustained bilateral femoral fractures. This should be considered in any new injury criteria for the femur. The second aspect of the program involved the collection of data in an impact environment patterned from that of a field accident that resulted in serious injuries to the struck vehicle's driver. The accident configuration was a two vehicle lateral impact. The strategy was that these data could be compared with field accident occupant injuries and to side impact dummy data from a series of full-scale crash tests resulting in a better understanding of human mechanical response characteristics and injury tolerance in lateral impact environments.
