Preparation of Certified Calibration Standard Gases with NBS (National Bureau of Standards) Traceability. DRC Task 11. Final Report August 1984-December 1985

The report presents the results of an 18-month experimental program at IGT which with the cooperation of the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) culminated in the availability of a new 10-component calibration gas for the analysis of natural gas by Gas Chromatography (GC). The project also provided the needed information to enhance the accuracy of an existing certification program at IGT that has supplied the gas industry with NBS-traceable standard natural gas with certified calorific value since 1965. Factors that may adversely affect the calibration gas stability during storage or use were extensively studied. These factors included storage cylinder material, gas composition, cylinder filling pressure, shelf life, and pressure drop during gas withdrawals. The report contains a large body of analytical data and 30 reference citations.
