Archaeological Testing and Survey at Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Georgia

摘要

Testing of one previously discovered site (9Ht7) and comprehensive site survey was conducted. Since this site did not appear to contain significant archaeological resources, it was recommended that it not be nominated for the National Register of Historic Places. Through survey, 33 previously unrecorded sites and 30 previously unrecorded artifact occurrences were located and examined by surface collection. Early through Late Archaic, Woodland, Mississippian, and Historic period components were identified at different sites. Most intensive occupation of the project area occupied during the Early and Late Archaic. Woodland and Mississippian utilization of the area was light and probably occurred only at special activity sites occupied on a short-term basis. Historic period settlement of the area was sparse prior to establishment of the Air Force base in World War II.
