Report of Ecosystem Studies Conducted during the 1986 Eastern Tropical Pacific Dolphin Survey on the Research Vessel 'David Starr Jordan'

The National Marine Fisheries Service is responsible for assessing the status of dolphin stocks affected by the tuna purse seine fishery in the eastern tropical Pacific. The primary objective of the dolphin habitat monitoring portion of the program is to provide information about effects of large-scale environmental variation on estimates of trends in dolphin abundance. The report describes types of data collected, sampling techniques, and reports regional and local changes in environmental parameters such as chlorophyll, nutrients, temperature, salinity, oxygen, and the occurrence of seabirds and other animals occurring concurrently with dolphin sightings.
