Hydrotreating is one of the most widely applied catalytic processes. The importance of hydrotreating in general, and of hydro-desulfurization (HDS) in particular, is likely to grow even further in the foreseeable future. More sulfur-rich feeds need to be processed, and the regulations concerning the maximum sulfur content of products are expected to become stricter. In the thesis, a study is reported on the structure and properties of HDS catalysts. Key preparation parameters were systematically varied, and by a comparison of the properties of more than 50 closely related catalysts detailed information on structure and reactivity is gained.
