International Competitiveness Study of the Optics Industry

摘要

The competitiveness of the U.S. fiber optics industry rests on several factors, including wider access to foreign markets;continued commitment to research and development, particularly in high-spied optoelectronics and all optical systems;adequate protection of patents at home and abroad;industry commitment and flow-up to domestic and foreign sales;advances in the formulation of standards and changes in export controls and export financing. The study takes a too at the policy options of the 1984 Assessment and notes areas of progress and inaction. The study suggests the formation of an industry-wide trade association, a continued commitment by the U.S. Government to support export sales of domestic companies, and changes in export controls on fiber optics.
