The second Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (HANES II), conducted during the period 1976-80, was designed to measure and monitor the nutritional status and health of the U.S. population ages 6 months through 74 years. During HANES II, data were collected by means of a household questionnaire, medical histories, dietary questionnaires, a physical examination, spirometry trials, electrocardiograms, body measurements, puretone audiometry, speech and allergy tests, x-rays, a medication/vitamin usage questionnaire, a behavior questionnaire, and laboratory analyses of blood and urine samples. There were a total of 27,801 sample persons of which 25,286 were interviewed and 20,322 were examined. The data tape contains demographic information and the result of readings of chest x-rays for persons ages 25-74 years.
