Health Hazard Evaluation Report HETA-85-436-1886, Roaring Fork Transit Agency, Aspen, Colorado

In response to a request from the employees at the Roaring Ford Transit Agency (SIC-4171), Aspen, Colorado, an evaluation was made of possible health hazards in the bus repair storage area resulting from diesel emissions. Samples taken at the site indicated that although detectable levels of sulfur-dioxide, nitrogen-dioxide, total particulates, formaldehyde and carbon-monoxide (CO) were present in the work area, and were higher in winter than summer months, they were still below levels considered to be hazardous. The reservation's room was found to have short term CO levels ranging from 7 to 35 parts per million. The authors conclude that a health hazard did not exist for workers in the bus storage barn during this evaluation. A potential hazardous exposure to CO was identified in the reservationist's room.
