The goals of the project described by the report were set by the Department of Commerce as follows: The project is to examine the status of factory automation in Japan, identify recent technical innovations and key trends, analyze how advanced FA technology is transforming competition in manufacturing-based industries, and contribute to U.S. competitiveness by facilitating access to the latest advances in factory automation within Japan.
