Using a Graph Rewriting System for Databases

摘要

A major portion of a database management system (DBMS) deals with maintaining graph-like structures using a variety of data structures and algorithms. The paper describes a method to partly automate their construction using a rewrite system for colored graphs. The approach provides both a formal basis for the description of the DBMS semantics, and it will improve the exploitation of the potential parallelism in a DBMS.
