Cell Lines for Overexpressing the Human PDGF-A Gene Product and Method Therefor.

A cell line for overexpressing human platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is disclosed. The invention uses mammalian tissue cells transfected with a gene for encoding PDGF-A protein. The gene is cloned to a mammalian expression vector. The preferred cloned gene is pMM-PDGF-A and the preferred cells are NIH/3T3 mouse fibroblast cells. The method of using the cell line to express the protein is also disclosed. The invention can be useful in providing (1) a purified PDGF-A protein which would allow assessment of cellular sensitivity to growth differentiation and studies specifically related to wound healing in vivo; and (2) an antibody reagent kit which would allow detection of the PDGF-A gene product in human samples.
