The report summarizes the proceedings of the National Partners in Self-Sufficiency Roundtable, a conference held in Washington, DC., on October 5, 1988. The conference goals were to share experiences from a wide variety of self-sufficiency and welfare reform initiatives, and to provide an official close to the Project Self-Sufficiency (PS-S) Demonstration while promoting both the scores of communities continuing to operate Project Self-Sufficiency and the many communities initiating new PS-S programs since the demonstration began. The Project Self-Sufficiency Demonstration, which began in 1984, assisted communities to effectively coordinate existing resources, including housing assistance into a comprehensive education, training and employment program to help low-income families move into the economic mainstream. HUD provided approximately 10,000 Section 8 Existing Housing certificates for the demonstration.
