Davidson Project: Reducing Risk Factors Associated with Premature Births

The project's primary goal was to reduce the number of low birthweight babies born to women in Davidson County, North Carolina, by reducing both preterm births and intrauterine growth retardation. Volunteers were recruited, trained and matched with pregnant women in need of care. The focus of the support services was on psychosocial risk factors of preterm labor, such as low self-esteem, poor problem-solving abilities, and financial difficulty.
