摘要

SIDS, the sudden infant death syndrome, is the leading cause of death in the post-neonatal period, with Blacks and Native Americans at greater risk than Whites. There is a greater prevalence of a number of maternal and infant characteristics associated with SIDS within the minority groups. These characteristics, by covarying with race, may determine some or all of the observed racial differences in SIDS rate. The study examined the SIDS rate in a large population of White, Black, and Native Americans before and after controlling for potential covariates routinely recorded on birth certificates.
