摘要

The study focuse on the child welfare service problems of children with AIDS (Acquired immunedeficiency syndrome) whose parents are, or have had sexual contact with, intravenous drug abusers. the report summarizes what is known about the course the disease takes in HIV-infected children and the types of nonmedical services appropriate for them; defines service and financing policy issues; describes how the three cities with the highest incidence of Hiv-infected children (New York City; Newark, New Jersey; and Miami, Florida), are coping with the care of these children; and describes specific activities and responses that appear to work in each city. The project includes the design of an analytic framework to outline the information obtained, a literature review, telephone discussions with people involved in AIDS policy issues, and site visits to New York City, Newark, and Miami. The results of each of these activities are included in the appendices.
