Development of an Improved Permissible Miners' Caplamp

The report describes the design and development work performed to reduce the volume and weight of the miners' caplamp battery, as well as a headpiece with a swivel mechanism containing a halogen bulb with two filaments. Work was also conducted in the development of a maintenance-free battery. The design concept is based on nonsintered Ni-Cd technology, with an energy density of 22 Wh/lb. The caplamp system developed has been approved by the Mine Safety and Health Administration and can be manufactured for mine use.
