Working Safely with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) in the Research Laboratory Biosafety Level 2/3

The NIH Division of Safety has compiled the set of guidance documents for laboratory personnel working with human immunodeficiency viruses. Included are two issues of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report entitled. 1988 Agent Summary Statement for Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Report on Laboratory-Acquired Infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (April 1, 1988/Vol. 37/No. S-4) and Recommendations for Prevention of HIV Transmission in Health-Care Settings (August 21, 1987/Vol. 36/No. 2S). Included as an adjunct to these articles is a copy of 'Effectively Using Biological Safety Cabinets.' The recommended facilities, practices and procedures for laboratory personnel working with HIV at biosafety level 2/3 and biosafety level 3 are incorporated within the text of the Agent Summary Statement.
