Report of the Intragovernmental Task Force: AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) Health Care Delivery

At the request of the Assistant Secretary for Health, a Task Force was organized in January 1987 to identify and report on health care delivery issues related to the care of people infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The Task Force was directed to explore the issues of access to care, quality of care, financing of care, integration of Government activities at all levels, and the role of the family. Of particular concern to the Task Force were the availability and continuity of services and identification of gaps in services. The Task Force met ten times from January to August 1987; each meeting focused on one or more of the specific issues the Task Force was asked to address. Consultants both within and outside of the Federal Government with expertise in the subject area under discussion shared their knowledge with the Task Force. These discussions combined with the review of articles and data from available sources, formed the background for the final report and recommendations.
