Characterization of Municipal Solid Waste in the United States, 1960 to 2000 (Update 1988)

Knowledge of the quantities and composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) is a necessary tool for many aspects of solid waste management. The report, which is an update of previous work in 1986, presents a summary of estimates of historical MSW quantities and composition from 1960 to 1986, with projections to the year 2000. The material flows methodology developed by EPA in the early 1970s, with refinements that have been added in succeeding years, was used to make these estimates.
