Etra Lake Restoration Project. Phase 2

Aquatic plants had covered 100% of the bottom of Etra Lake, New Jersey, which also had siltration, odor problems, some blue-green algal blooms, and was a habitat for nuisance insects. Dredging (drawdown and excavation) removed over 2 million cubic feet of soft sediments and increased lake depth from a mean of 2.9 to 5.5 feet. Aquatic macrophytes were cleared. Authors recommend watershed management techniques like erosion control and shore stabilization, and the correction of excess bacteria. The report was prepared in partial fulfillment of an EPA Clean Lakes grant.
