The Vallejo-Fairfield Housing Market Area (HMA), defined as the Vallejo-Fairfield Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and coterminous with Solano County, is located 30 miles northeast of the city of San Francisco and is part of the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Because of the relative affordability of housing in the HMA compared with other San Francisco Bay Area counties, the HMA is a bedroom community. Of HMA residents, 73,372 work outside Solano County (200711 American Community Survey 5-year estimates).
