The research developed a universal chemical kinetic model for the combustion and ignition of methane (and mixtures of methane with other gases mimicking the composition of natural gas) in terms of elementary chemical reactions with rates specified as functions of temperature and pressure. During the past year, kinetic absorption spectroscopy of OH was used to take data on the H2-O2 reaction subset of the natural gas combustion mechanism, unimolecular reaction falloff corrections were incorporated into the model programs, methods were developed for efficient interpolation between high and low pressure limiting rate constants, and an intensive study into the underlying reasons for the frequency and amplitude instabilities in the frequency-doubled cw dye laser were made. A number of manuscripts have been written, submitted for publication, and presented at national and international meetings.
