Improvements in Loading and Discharge of Military Sealift Breakbulk Cargos

The traditional approach to loading/unloading unitized cargo from general cargo ships by employing the vessel's cargo booms, arranged in a burtoning configuration, is both time-consuming and manpower intensive. A time-tested, automated cargo access system is presented that, when used in conjunction with forklift trucks, will both speed up the cargo handling operations and do so at a much reduced manpower level. The cargo handling emphasis is placed on the throughput of military cargoes, while the vessel is moored in the stream, during an assault on a beach head.
