Room-Temperature CCD Imaging System for the Detection of Beta-Emitting Tracers

The properties of a commercially available 576 x 384 pixel CCD array detector, connected to a digital image processing system, are studied in view of the direct detection of beta particles emitted by tracer compounds. The set-up of the measuring system is presented together with calculations of the expected S/N ratio. First results of CCD measurements made at room temperature are also given.
