The manual describes short-term (four- to seven-day) methods for estimating the chronic toxicity of effluents and receiving waters to the fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas), a cladoceran (Ceriodaphnia dubia), and a green alga (Selenastrum capricornutum). Also included are guidelines on laboratory safety, quality assurance, facilities and equipment, dilution water, effluent sampling and holding, data analysis, report preparation, and organism culturing and handling. Examples of the statistical analysis of test data are included with the methods. Supplementary information on statistical techniques for test design and analysis of toxicity test data is provided in the Appendices.
