Soluble, High Molecular Weight Rigid Rod Polymers. Phase 1

Several routes toward new monomers for rigid rod polymers were investigated. The routes were designed to avoid high cost starting materials and lengthy procedures. One promising monomer was produced; however, it did not have the desired solubility, and further modification is required.
