In recent years, service providers in family planning (FP) and maternal child health (MCH) clinics have become more concerned about preventing the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS prevention in the FP/MCH clinic includes education of the public, distribution of condoms, and proper processing of clinic equipment. Many disease-causing microorganisms besides AIDS can be spread by contaminated needles, syringes and other clinic equipment. This INTRAH TIP will serve as a reference for trainers, clinic managers and service providers who want to minimize the risk of spreading disease from contaminated FP/MCH clinic equipment.
