Move: Innovations in Rural Health Care Delivery

The report discusses case studies of five rural communities that took steps to enhance their local health care. Two of the case studies focus on primary care, which is typically delivered in a physician's office, a clinic, or a community health center. Primary care includes diagnosis and treatment of common illness, disease prevention, and health promotion. The other three case studies are about innovations in acute care, which is defined as inpatient hospitalization or specialized outpatient care for routine medical and surgical procedures that require complex technology and highly trained personnel. The report addresses health care topics in rural areas such as the health status of the population, access to care, health care staffing shortages, decreased usage of health care facilities, and financial decline of the facilities.
