摘要

Multispectral digital imagery has significant applications in archaeological investigations. Improvement in both spatial and spectral resolution is expanding these applications. The physiochemical characteristics of the archaeological sites indicate the need for careful consideration of the spectral characteristics of sensor systems in order for them to be effective in site discovery. Use of a suite of data processing procedures including band ratioing is essential. Earlier digital imagery systems, especially Landsat MSS, were largely ineffective for archaeological studies. Landsat TM and SPOT are effective for landscape and vegetation mapping. Airborne sensors with multiple bands and high spatial resolution (under 1 m) are useful for site discovery and for within-site studies. Integration of multispectral imagery and other spatial data products and data systems will substantially increase the usefulness of these data.
