Combat Vehicle Vulnerability to Anti-Armor Weapons: A Review of the Army's Assessment Methodology

The report clarifies that the principal role of combat-loaded, live-fire testing is to provide an independent check on the general success of design and development process for the vehicle. Recommended procedures for designing combat-loaded, live-fire test series are contained in the report with suggestions for their execution. Report discussion emphasizes that arriving at vulnerability assessments in the form needed for Army engineering and planning purposes is a complex task that depends on the use of analytic models programmed for execution on high-speed computers. Analytical models currently used by the Army are reviewed in detail, as are suggestions for improved models that offer the best achievable accuracy for a given expenditure of calculational time and computer resources.
