摘要

The report describes the results of an investigation to determine the mechanical properties of commercial polyethylene fuel gas pipe material by use of a hybrid crack-growth-rate/creep-rupture test called the constant-tensile load test method. The objective of the study was to assess and describe the mechanical behavior of PE gas pipe materials in support of a program to improve their long-term reliability and performance in fuel gas distribution systems. The report discusses the results of the CTL experiments, the subsequent analytical models used to correlate these data with the chemical and molecular properties, and the potential application of the CTL test as a quality assurance tool for use by the fuel gas industry.
