Electric and Magnetic Fields and Contact Currents Near AM (Amplitude Modulation) Standard Broadcast Radio Stations

The study represents an investigation of the radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic field environment in the immediate vicinity of AM radio broadcast towers. The study provides additional information that may be useful in more accurately determining the distance from such towers at which RF fields may exceed applicable guidelines for safe human exposure. Electric and magnetic fields were measured at four different AM radio stations in Las Vegas, Nevada. One of the stations was non-directional, and the remaining three employed directional patterns either at night or during the day and night. Radiofrequency currents flowing between guy wires and individuals touching these wires (contact currents) were also briefly investigated.
