Atlas of Salmonella in the United States. Serotype-Specific Surveillance 1968-1986

The national Salmonella surveillance system was begun at Centers for Disease Control in 1962. Computerized data files from the system were analyzed for the period 1968-1986. The analysis covered the 80 most commonly reported serotypes. For each serotype the age-, sex-, and state-specific incidence of human isolates reported to the system was determined, as well as variation by month, year and rural or urban location. Data on non-human isolates are also summarized. The atlas highlights unexplained and sometimes dramatic differences among the various serotypes, and is a unique reference book for researchers and clinicians interested in the Salmonella problem.
