The Fisher-Calo, LaPorte site is listed on the National Priorities List (NPL). The facility is comprised of two parcels of land totalling 250 acres and was primarily engaged in the reclamation of spent solvents; in particular, paint solvents. In addition, acid and caustic metal finishing wastes were received. The environmental contamination on-site consists of 1,1-dichloroethylene (440 ppb), trichloroethylene (8,100 ppb), and tetrachloroethylene (2,555 ppb) in groundwater. The site is considered to be of public health concern because of the risk to human health caused by the likelihood of exposure to hazardous substances via contaminated groundwater, and possibly contaminated soil, sediment, surface water, and air; and the physical condition of the site.
