Nematicides on Florida Citrus: Pest Control in Transition

The report is part of the National Network for Environmental Management Studies under the auspices of the Office of Cooperative Environment Management of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The economic and social impacts of Environmental Protection Agency bans on the use of dibromochloropropane and ethylene dibromide for controlling Florida citrus nematodes are analyzed. Economic effects were minimal, as new nematicides were registered for the use-site. In addition, a new non-chemical cultural practice was observed. Finally, changes in the attitudes of nematode control specialists are noted.
